Colombia Coin Star?????????

With under two months left here we decided to crack open the piggy bank. These terracotta pigs are cheap and popular here and with the abundance of small change we decided to save it all for the end. We had never really had a piggy bank before and the idea of cracking something seemed really fun. And it was, it also made a really loud exploding sound...hence the face.


But as we know nothing is simple here in Colombia- and now we can add this to the list too. Now that we have a heap of coins there seems to be no logical plan of action in this city with someone with many coins. No Coin Star....okay this doesn't come as a shock but what about the little sleeves that you roll coins in...not even these? Seriously? So we asked around and the best answer we got is that we take them in plastic bags to the center to the main branch of the bank during banking hours where you must wait while the count them. Ridiculous. So now we are just paying with everything in coins- kind of defeats the whole purpose. We are also selling 10 dollars worth every few days to our tienda lady.

I guess we got what we really wanted out of it....to SMASH it!
