Arriving in Quito from Cali. Colombia can best be described to a North American as leaving the hot valley of LA and landing in the fresh mountain air of Colorado.
Quito is a city in the high mountains surrounded by gorgeous mountains and snow covered volcanoes. We instantly fell in love. We felt energized by the brisk air and relaxed by the mellowness of the people. This city is much more our style.
We stayed in a great little hostal right on a Plaza. It was family owned and the people were so friendly, it was out of the touristy area and we were shocked how little people there were considering it was Semana Santa!
This is the Plaza infront of our Hostal. We spent only a few days in Quito just enough to walk around and see the plazas and get a feel for the city.
This a soup called Fanesca, it is a soup only made once a year during the Holy Week. Everyone said we must try it. It is a mix of many lentals, corn, plantain, cheese, vegetables and DRIED COD! it was disgusting, to us atleast but if you are a fan of Asian fish sauce you woul love it. The desert was a fig in molasses acompained with homemade cheese...now that was tasty!

One of the nights we ate an amazing restaraunt that was located on a roof top and had a a 360 degree view of Quito. There were heat lamps and we were wrapped in Alpaca Scarves. It was a full moon and as the moon rose it was absolotuly enermous.
The rest are just some shots around the city.

Nice to catch up.... Quito is where Emily and Adam went to teach after Columbia. That lodge looks awesome...probably a crazy change of pace, eh?
