A large population of Ecuador, especially in the mountains are Indigenous. These people are really a sight to be seen. The dress was so fascinating. First of all in many of the tribes women are not allowed to wear pants and they must were a hat (which are hipster hats adorned with a peacock feather) this is despite the weather and the work they are expected to do wearing these clothes. However they are quite accustomed to it and for me it was very impressive to walk in the mountains seeing these women wearing skirts, loafers, ponchos and having a baby tied to their back while working on the insanely steep farms.
These people are hearty people, working in the high sun and cold winds there faces are all rosy and the kids are well dressed put perpetually filthy. I could really relate to these people much more than I the city people of Cali. It was like being back on the beach just substitute carharts from pleated skirts.
