We are back home, where our real job was waiting. We gave ourselves exactly 24 hours to rest and then it was back to work.
Alaska was cloudy, rainy and wonderful. It was a wetter than usual season but the wood stove kept us warm along with good company and too much wine and food. Like all good things - it did have to end but our dusty shacks will be awaiting arrival next year. Not too many fish but a high price made up for difference along with an enthusiastic and optimistic crew.
Our plane ride back was long. We saw the sun set as we left Alaska behind only to see it rise and set again before we were home in bed- overtired but unable to sleep. Sunday was a blur and Monday the first day back at work was full of far too many kisses and meetings.
Transition- the first week we were so tired that we couldn't even comment on our emotions and the drastic change that our lives under went in less then a day. But now after two weeks we have a comment. Transitions are awkward and make you contemplative about life and the decisions you make.
Coming in to Cali felt strangely like home. The streets and the smells, people and places that filled them were familiar and even some how comforting- more than I anticipated. The weather was so wonderful and our house felt like a dream come true but now as we make the real transition back into this life I feel rusty and apprehensive. I wonder-Can I do this again? I think everything feels like this in the beginning. Leaving such close friends in an environment were you can truly be yourself and coming into a world were everything related to our lives seem so topical and temporary is trying.
Anyways we thought about ending the blog but changed our minds after some persuading from others and me coming to realize that this blogging/journaling is a good type of therapy for me whether people read it or not. Yet, if you are reading...welcome back and where ever you are and what ever you are doing share it with us...we miss you all.
Here is a video of some of the moments of our summer...
