The World Cup is just around the corner, though soccer is not so popular in the states, people here are crazy about it. My kids all have the World Cup book where they are trying to collect player's cards but more than that they are OBSESSED with the song "Wave you Flag." Is it popular in the states too? It is a bit overplayed but I have to admit it is very catchy....and annoying sometimes when my kids are humming it during class.
From a teaching opinion it is a great teachable moment to talk about the Apartied and the history of South Africa (where the World Cup will be.)
Unfortunatly we will be tucked away in our fishing village and will not be here to watch the World Cup with our friends. Yesterday we got togehter at a friends house to watch the last match for the European World Cup. Everyone knows that we are not really what you would call sports fans....but if I had to choose Soccer is a good one to watch.
