Friday night we had friends over and one of the guys made an awesome Indian Curry dish. It was a nice night of food and socializing. These people are super nice people, full of great stories. We kind of come together out of couch surfing a previous trip. A mix of Europeans and Colombians, they Europeans are completely bi-lingual but luckily most of them speak English, although I really can't understand Kevin, the guy from Ireland...his accent is so strong!
Saturday was a one day Christmas shopping event, but it was actually pretty enjoyable. Instead of going to a crowded mall we were able to get our gifts in an artisan gallery in Alameda, Loma de La cruz and cool shops in the neighborhood of Peñon, all of which are in walking distance of our house. Lots of walking but mission accomplished.
Saturday evening we went to this beautiful theater called Teatro Municipal to see The Nutcracker. The theatre a five minute walk from our house is gorgeous and we were very impressed with the performance from the Cali Ballet Company.
Sunday we went to a Musuem near our house to visit the Di Vinci Exhibit. We were with our neighbor so instead of paying to see the exhibit we watched a cool documentary on Divincis ife an old independent theater. We will have to go back to see the exhibit.
From there we had to enter the dreaded mall to by some small food gifts for some people around here and it was painful. People here do not know how to walk in malls, they block the whole way, the bump into you and they stop with out warning. When you shop in a store the employees follow you around like a shadow, sometimes I would just walk in circles around a rack to see how long they would follow me for....the answer...infinitely! It is impossible to find a box of Christmas cards here and the Christmas cards are all of the Jesus theme. Wrapping paper is sold mostly in sheets and ribbon in meters. Sometimes the simplest things are so tiring here.
Sunday evening Enrique and I practiced dancing Salsa on our roof. Since December is such a busy month and everyone is strapped for money we decided not to pay for the academy and just practice on the roof, which has been really fun and the perfect climate; fresh and breezy! here is a video of us practicing....I have a long way to go!
