Our first international party

September 19, 2009

This weekend was a wonderful art festival on our street. It was full of food vendors, artists and performers. Since many people from school were coming to our neighborhood we decided to have a little party after the festival. And because the festival was during the day we planned the party for 6:30, which by Colombian standards is really a strange time to have a party. It was a very bizarre party filled with random people. Like a middle school dance the party was very separated but not separated by boys and girls but rather English speakers and Spanish speakers. It was strange to be hosting a party with such a diverse mix of people. And it was the LONGEST party ever, since the international teachers came at 6:30 and most left by 10:00 and then all our Colombian friends and neighbors came later and stayed till 3:00 am!

In the end, one of our neighbors called some friends to come on roof and play music and we ended up dancing Salsa all night. How strange to have a live band arrive at your house unexpected at 11:00 pm, plug in and start blaring live music!
